My Dr Zhivago coat...

Art always serves beauty, and beauty is the joy of possessing form, and form is the key to organic life since no living thing can exist without it.

Doctor Zhivago
Chapter 14, Section 12

This 'fur' coat is undoubtedly my best vintage purchase ever. On my way between courts (in my law clerking days, 8 years ago), I decided (on a whim) to drop into a vintage store I had often seen but had never entered. Whilst scanning the kaleidoscope of colours within it, I found it, a diamond in the rough...I seriously cannot describe my excitement on seeing it, the soft large fur cuffs & collar, the big 'marbley' buttons, the body of the coat (I still don't know what it is, ponyhair?) was so soft, and the coat so heavy, and all in pristine condition. Best of all, I seriously could not believe the price, I think my fingers were shaking when paying for it, worried they would discover it was a mistake and demand more money from me...It was all of $60! I have dubbed it my 'Dr Zhivago coat'.

Vintage coat (shame my pics don't do it justice)
Marlova cashmere tank dress (not pictured)
Metallicus grey marle leggings
Chloe Silverado Wedges

J'adore these Chloe Silverado Wedges, and how delicate the wedge is from behind, beautifully sculpted so it's not too chunky:

How gorgeous is Plum Sykes in her Couture Couture coat? Such a cute outfit!

  15. Thank you so much for your lovely comments everyone! :)

H - that's weird! I can still see the pic? I once had it saved on my laptop (but the cable's broken) so I had to find it on online, may change it back once the cable's fixed and I can get back onto my own computer.

janettaylor - Thanks! And hehe, yes, they are. I could not believe my luck when I found them brand new, despite being from the 2006 collection!

lily - admittedly it is my BEST ever vintage purchase (and last one too!), so I am usually like you, envying others' vintage purchases...

princessimp. - Thanks! And I have always thought so too! ;)

damsels - will try to sometime!

mizzJ - Oh, but it does get cold! I nearly froze my hands off this morning, I think it was less than 3 degrees Celsius! I live in coats in Winter...perhaps not as cold as in Canada, but definitely cold enough! :)

Stefanie - Aw, thanks! Love Dr Zhivago too! And ever since I posted this, I've had the Dr Zhivago tune playing on repeat in my head, haha!

tanya - admittedly it was 8 or so years ago, but please do come shopping with me! :)

  16. shoptoomuch - Thanks! Sadly, that shop is no longer there, plus after this fortuitous purchase, I returned several times to that shop (while it was still running), but never found anything remotely interesting in there, it was truly a 'diamond in the rough', I still cannot believe my luck! Sydney does have great vintage stores though, and my fave is 'The Vintage Clothing Store' on Castlereagh Street - absolutely amazing stuff in there!

  19. Dios Mio! What a fabulous find. I have been seriously craving a vintage fur or faux coat recently, mostly due to re-watching The Royal Tenenbaums and falling in love with Margot's style all over again. Too bad it is 80 degrees and humid in Philadelphia. I wish it was autumn here - want to trade hemispheres? :)

  32. Wow...such a gorgeous coat! Truly a lucky find. Unfortunately for me, there are no wonderful vintage stores around the courts here; the courts are either surrounded by overpriced parking lots, cheapy stores, or are simply out in the middle of nowhere.
